Closed cooling towers are ideal for this application, as they prevent the cooling water from contacting the outside air, eliminating the risk of airborne contaminants entering the heat exchangers of sensitive IT equipment.
Acoustic mitigation for studio cooling towers involves a multi-layered engineering approach. First, the selection of the fan is critical. Ultra-low-noise fans, often featuring wide, aerodynamically optimized blades, are used to move large volumes of air at lower rotational speeds. Second, the physical location of the cooling tower is planned strategically, often utilizing physical sound barriers or acoustic baffles to direct noise away from the soundstage walls.
